Artist Statement

Through painting and mixed media, my work is centered on the human relationship with nature. The pieces display chaos and disorder in ecosystems, but also tranquility and balance. This contrast highlights both our adverse impact on the earth and our dependence on the natural world around us. Some paintings take a more objective look at our troubled relationship with the Earth, while others reflect on my personal connection to nature. Through layering subjects and rendering them with varying levels of clarity, I suggest a sense of time and loss, reflecting on the species and natural beauty that we destroy in our pursuit of industry and advancement. Materiality is also central to my work, and many oil paintings are made with sustainably harvested pigments, ensuring sustainability in my practice.
