Art of the Earth
Artist Statement
My work is centered around nature and the relationship that we share with the natural world. Through subject matter and materiality, I strive to capture the essence of animals, plants, and the human connection to the environment.
Creating art sustainably is central to my practice. I strive to use natural and upcycled materials whenever possible. Much of my work is felted from wool. Wool is an incredible medium, as it is sourced naturally and sustainably from livestock and is textured and colorful. It is the perfect material from which to make sculptures highlighting the beauty of animals and nature in a sustainable way.Â
Other sculptural works invoke living components, incorporating live plants. These pieces are dynamic and require consistent care, lending a new light to how we may see art. Reflecting the natural flux and unpredictability of our natural environment, these pieces mimic the beauty in the shifts of nature.
Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, my works unite to honor the earth and reflect on our connection to our home. I hope to inspire change in the way we treat the earth and reflection into our own individual connections to the natural world.
